| dc.description.abstract | In recent years, climate change has emerged as one of the most significant challenges facing our planet. Its far-reaching consequences extend beyond the realms of the natural environment, affecting various facets of human life, including the integrity of our architectural heritage. Timber structures, with their timeless beauty and historical significance, are particularly vulnerable to the evolving climate patterns that characterize the contemporary era. The scope of this research is both comprehensive and targeted. It seeks to unravel the multifaceted ways in which climate variables, ranging from temperature and relative humidity fluctuations to extreme weather events, interact with timber structures. Through meticulous analysis and experimentation, the study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the vulnerabilities inherent in these heritage treasures. The results of this endeavour promise to be far-reaching. By elucidating the climate-induced stresses on timber heritage structures, we not only enhance our theoretical understanding but also lay the groundwork for informed conservation strategies. It is my hope that this research contributes to the development of sustainable practices that can safeguard these cultural artefacts for future generations. | |
